Cosmo tops in digital

30 June 2011

Cosmopolitan.co.za took top honours at the inaugural Marketing Mix Digital Media Publishers Awards, winning the “Best content offering: Women” category. This news follows an exceptional month for Cosmo online as the magazine broke through the 11 000 followers mark on Twitter (@CosmopolitanSA) and achieved more than 26 400 likes on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/CosmopolitanSA).

The Marketing Mix Digital Media Publishing Awards is based on recognizing traditional media houses that have successfully embraced digital. Marketing Mix invited some of South Africa’s top digital experts to judge the awards, scoring each entry in terms of it’s website, mobisite, iPads and applications, and social media. For all the details regarding the awards, see the latest issue of Marketing Mix.

The judges had this to say about Cosmopolitan.co.za:

“Cosmopolitan took the Women’s category from the other strong contenders, mainly because it offers more digital components, plus it picked up bonus points for average session duration."

“While social media has been at the forefront of Cosmo’s digital thinking for the past year, particularly for Facebook and Twitter, it is the content for both its mobisite and website that scored highly with the judges.

“The website scored most highly for accessibility as Cosmo has ensured that the website functions not just aesthetically, but also functionally and structurally. This has also translated into success for Cosmo in terms of average session duration, which it was awarded bonus points for.”

“We are extremely proud of the recognition from Marketing Mix,” says Associated Magazines Group Digital Manager, Jade McDade. “The achievement is especially great in light of the fact that Cosmopolitan is competing with powerhouses in its field. Cosmopolitan online’s success lies in the community it has formed. Content and communication come together to form a 360-degree brand that spans all platforms, digital and otherwise.”

With over 11 800 Twitter followers, Cosmopolitan has more than double the followers on Twitter than any of its major competitors. The Facebook page has over 26 400 likes, and the website, www.cosmopolitan.co.za, boasts over 400 000 monthly page impressions and over 34 000 unique users, as well as more than 24 000 subscribers to the newsletter.
